The name "Aldborough" derives from the Old English ald (old) and burh (fortification).[1]
The civil parish has an area of 7.15 square kilometres and in 2001 had a population of 567 in 259 households, the population increasing to 578 at the 2011 Census.[2] For the purposes of local government, the parish falls within the area of the district of North Norfolk.[3]
