Ethnic groups
The people in the district are mainly indigenous citizens of Quechua descent. Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (85.59%) learnt to speak in childhood, 13.75% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language (2007 Peru Census).[2]

Der Distrikt Taraco liegt in der Provinz Huancané in der Region Puno in Südost-Peru. Der Distrikt besitzt eine Fläche von 193 km². Beim Zensus 2017 wurden 13.631 Einwohner gezählt. Im Jahr 1993 betrug die Einwohnerzahl 15.817, im Jahr 2007 14.657. Sitz der Distriktverwaltung ist die 3819 m hoch gelegene Ortschaft Taraco mit 1862 Einwohnern (Stand 2017). Taraco befindet sich 25 km westsüdwestlich der Provinzhauptstadt Huancané.- [en] Taraco District
