Ethnic groups

The people in the district are mainly indigenous citizens of Quechua descent. Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (79.22%) learnt to speak in childhood, 18.42% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language (2007 Peru Census).[3]

Der Distrikt Tiquillaca liegt in der Provinz Puno in der Region Puno im Süden Perus. Der Distrikt besitzt eine Fläche von 489 km². Beim Zensus 2017 wurden 1688 Einwohner gezählt. Im Jahr 1993 lag die Einwohnerzahl bei 2638, im Jahr 2007 bei 2053. Sitz der Distriktverwaltung ist die 3885 m hoch gelegene Ortschaft Tiquillaca mit 369 Einwohnern (Stand 2017). Tiquillaca befindet sich 17,5 km westnordwestlich der Regions- und Provinzhauptstadt Puno.
