Ethnic groups
The people in the district are mainly indigenous citizens of Aymara descent. Aymara is the language which the majority of the population (92.98%) learnt to speak in childhood, 6.20% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language (2007 Peru Census).[2]

Der Distrikt Vilque Chico liegt in der Provinz Huancané in der Region Puno in Südost-Peru. Der Distrikt besitzt eine Fläche von 508 km². Beim Zensus 2017 wurden 7796 Einwohner gezählt. Im Jahr 1993 betrug die Einwohnerzahl 12.245, im Jahr 2007 9527. Sitz der Distriktverwaltung ist die 3825 m hoch gelegene Ortschaft Vilque Chico (oder Vilquechico) mit 469 Einwohnern (Stand 2017). Vilque Chico befindet sich knapp 8 km ostsüdöstlich der Provinzhauptstadt Huancané.- [en] Vilque Chico District
