The municipality contains the larger part of the 27,864 hectares (68,850 acres) Tracuateua Marine Extractive Reserve, a sustainable use conservation unit created in 2005.[6]

Население составляет 27 455 человек на 2010 год. Занимает площадь 934,272 км². Плотность населения — 29,39 чел./км².
