Basque is an unincorporated community in Malheur County, Oregon, United States.[1] It lies along U.S. Route 95 about halfway between Burns Junction and McDermitt.[2] It is also the home to "Oregon Department of Transportation" [3] maintenance workers in the area. It is unlawful to enter the grounds of the "State of Oregon"[4] property in which the community of Basque, Oregon is. The community is named after Basque migrants, many of them sheepherders, settled in remote parts of southeastern Oregon between the 1880s and the 1930s.[5]
