It derives its name from the Viking File the Dane, who settled in the area around AD 800.[citation needed] The village is situated on the shores of Filby Broad and Ormesby Little Broad, in the Broads National Park, some 9 km (6 mi) north-west of the town of Great Yarmouth and 25 km (16 mi) east of the city of Norwich.[3]
In 2002, Filby won the village category of the Britain in Bloom competition.[4]
Filby Heath is located south of the A1064 road to the east of Filby. It is a cluster of cottages and historical buildings.[citation needed]
