Tambo District is one of eight districts of the La Mar Province in Peru.[1]

Geography

One of the highest peaks of the district is Rasuwillka at approximately 4,800 m (15,700 ft). Other mountains are listed below:[2]

Ethnic groups

The people in the district are mainly indigenous citizens of Quechua descent. Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (87.40%) learnt to speak in childhood, 12.36% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language (2007 Peru Census).[3]

Der DistriktTambo liegt in der Provinz La Mar in der Region Ayacucho in Südzentral-Peru. Der Distrikt besitzt eine Fläche von 303 km². Beim Zensus 2017 wurden 10.667 Einwohner gezählt. Im Jahr 1993 lag die Einwohnerzahl bei 11.866, im Jahr 2007 bei 17.637. Sitz der Distriktverwaltung ist die 3219 m hoch gelegene Kleinstadt Tambo mit 4052 Einwohnern (Stand 2017). Tambo liegt 8 km nordnordwestlich der Provinzhauptstadt San Miguel.
