History

Belén District was created by Law No.15231 in Nov 23, 1964, during first term of President Fernando Belaúnde

The population of Belén is 611 people, 292 men and 319 women.[1]

Ethnic groups

The people in the district are mainly indigenous citizens of Quechua descent. Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (79.32%) learnt to speak in childhood, 20.52% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language (2007 Peru Census).[2]

Der Distrikt Belén liegt in der Provinz Sucre in der Region Ayacucho in Südzentral-Peru. Der Distrikt wurde am 3. März 1928 gegründet. Er besitzt eine Fläche von 54,9 km². Beim Zensus 2017 wurden 506 Einwohner gezählt. Im Jahr 1993 lag die Einwohnerzahl bei 809, im Jahr 2007 bei 721. Sitz der Distriktverwaltung ist die 3645 m hoch gelegene Ortschaft Belén mit 286 Einwohnern (Stand 2017). Belén liegt 24 km nordnordöstlich der Provinzhauptstadt Querobamba.
