The Manor of Painters was an estate in the Parish of Ospringe. According to Edward Hasted in 1798, it was held in 1547, by the son of Sir Anthony Aucher (an MP for Canterbury). The manor passed through various owners similar to the Manor of Ospringe.[1]
Within the village are four listed buildings, all are listed Grade II on the National Heritage List for England; Little Oaks,[2] Bayfield House,[3] Old House,[4] and Painter's Farmhouse.[5]
The village also has its own public house, 'The Alma' (part the Shepherd Neame group).[6]
There is a former Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in the village, dating from 1873, which was known for many years as Whitehill Chapel & Champion Hall. In 2019 the building was purchased by the Anglican Catholic Church and renamed The Anglican Catholic Church of St Augustine of Canterbury.[7]
