Am 4. April 1955 bekam der Ort den Status Kleinstadt (Vila) verliehen, der dann auch in den bisherigen Namen Aves integriert wurde.

Zwischen 1960 und 1975 arbeiteten zahlreiche Bewohner aus Vila das Aves als Gastarbeiter in der lothringischen Textilindustrie. 1986 entstand daraus die bis heute bestehende Partnerschaft mit der Gemeinde Saint-Étienne-lès-Remiremont.

Sport

Der Fußballverein Desportivo Aves tritt in der Saison 2018/19 in der Primeira Liga an und gewann 2018 die Taça de Portugal.

Aves is an industrial town and civil parish (freguesia) in northern Portugal. The population in 2011 was 8,458,[1] in an area of 6.16 km².[2] It is located in the municipality of Santo Tirso, 6 km to the northeast of the municipality seat, the city of Santo Tirso proper, bordering the parish of Lordelo in the municipality of Guimarães. Aves is nowadays, after Santo Tirso itself, the most important town in the municipality of Santo Tirso.

Vila das Aves es una ciudad industrial y una parroquia (freguesia) del norte de Portugal, perteneciente al municipio (municipio) de Santo Tirso, con una población de 8492 habitantes (según el censo de 2001), y una superficie de 6'07 km². Está situada en una meseta en la del río Vizela con el río Ave. Está a 6 km al nordeste de Santo Tirso y limita con la parroquia de Lordelo en el municipio de Guimarães. Vila das Aves es en la actualidad, después de la propia Santo Tirso, la ciudad más importante del municipio. Fue elevada a villa el 4 de abril de 1955, siendo antes conocida solamente como Aves.

Находится в составе крупной городской агломерации Большой Порту. По старому административному делению входил в провинцию Дору-Литорал. Входит в экономико-статистический субрегион Ави, который входит в Северный регион. Население составляет 8492 человека на 2001 год. Занимает площадь 6,07 км².
