Site of the exquisite neo-classical Summer palace of an 18th-century archbishop of Granada, Don José Manuel Moscoso y Peralta, (1723–1811), an important figure in the history of Peru, the near-vicinity of Víznar was the place of execution, in 1936, of the noted Spanish poet, Federico García Lorca, at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War.

Víznar es una localidad y municipio español perteneciente a la provincia de Granada, en la comunidad autónoma de Andalucía. Se encuentra en las estribaciones de la Sierra de la Alfaguara, en la parte central de la Vega de Granada y a unos nueve kilómetros de la ciudad de Granada. Su superficie es de 13 km². Se encuentra a una altitud de 1050 metros y tiene una población de 978 habitantes (INE, 2017).
