Elda[lower-alpha 1] is a city and municipality located in the province of Alicante, Spain. As of 2009, it has a total population of 55,618 inhabitants, ranking as the 7th most populous city in the province. Elda joins together with the town of Petrer to form a conurbation with over 85,000 inhabitants. The river Vinalopó flows through the urban area of Elda.

Elda is known for its footwear industry, in particular for women's shoes. Tourist sites include the Footwear Museum, the Archaeological Museum, the Torre del Homenaje del castillo (a tower dating from the 12th century), Castelar Square, Count of Coloma Palace, the Town Hall and the church of Santa Ana. It also celebrates the important festival of Moros y Cristianos

Elda es un municipio y ciudad española situada al sur de la Comunidad Valenciana en la provincia de Alicante y en la comarca del Medio Vinalopó, de la cual es capital administrativa, tiene una población de 52 404 habitantes (INE 2018) y ocupa un área de 45,79 kilómetros cuadrados. El casco urbano se encuentra ubicado en una fértil terraza a orillas del río Vinalopó, y está rodeado de un circo de montañas. La relativa falta de suelo para crecer, provocó hace décadas que el casco urbano se fusionara totalmente con el de Petrel, formando así una conurbación de casi 90 000 habitantes, que en la vida cotidiana de los vecinos, existe como si fuera una sola ciudad.[5]
