One of the highest peaks of the district is Yana Urqu at approximately 4,600 m (15,100 ft). Other mountains are listed below:[2]
The people in the district are mainly Indigenous citizens of Quechua descent. Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (88.41%) learnt to speak in childhood, 11.24% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language (2007 Peru Census).[3]
