Oral (Kazakh: Орал, romanized: Oral (listen)), known in Russian as Uralsk, is a city in northwestern Kazakhstan, at the confluence of the Ural and Chagan rivers close to the Russian border. As it is located on the western bank of the Ural river, it is considered geographically in Europe. It is the capital of the West Kazakhstan Region. The ethnic composition is dominated by Kazakhs (71%) and Russians (25%). Population: 271,900 (2009 Census results);[2] 194,905 (1999 Census results).[2]

Climate


The climate of Oral is continental with long cold winters and warm, often hot summers. Under the Köppen climate classification, Oral has a cold semiarid climate (Köppen Bsk). Summers are extremely hot considering its position north of the 51st parallel, but winters are more reminiscent of continental climates further east than Europe.

Sport


Petr Atoyan Stadium
Petr Atoyan Stadium

FC Akzhayik are a Kazakhstani football club based in Petr Atoyan Stadium.

Bandy is the principal sport in the city. Akzhayik Sports Club, based in the Yunost Stadium, is the only professional team in the country and plays in the second highest division of Russia.[5] In September 2017, the Kazakhstan Bandy Federation bought the club.[6]

The city sent a team to the Spartakiade 2009 and the finished second.[7] All the players of the Under-23 national team in the 2013–14 season came from Oral.[8] After the Kazakhstan national bandy team took the gold medal at the 2011 Asian Winter Games, the team came back to Oral in triumph.[9]

Oral (kasachisch Орал; russisch Уральск Uralsk) ist eine Großstadt in Kasachstan. Sie befindet sich im Westen des Landes am nördlichen Rand der Kaspischen Senke unweit der Grenze zu Russland rund 250 Kilometer südlich von Samara und etwa 300 Kilometer westlich von Orenburg. Am rechten Ufer des Ural gelegen gehört die Stadt geografisch gesehen zu Europa. Die Stadt ist Verwaltungszentrum und mit 235.764 Einwohnern (Stand 1. Januar 2021) zugleich größte Stadt des Gebietes Westkasachstan.

Ура́льск, или Ора́л (каз.  Орал, Oral; до 1775 года — Я́ицкий городок) — город в европейской части Казахстана. Уральск расположен в Западном Казахстане, на реке Урал. Административный центр Западно-Казахстанской области, расположен на северной окраине Прикаспийской низменности. Площадь города в пределах городской черты — 209,83 км²[2], в границах территории Уральской городской администрации, — 731,33 км²[5], население 322 720 человек[3], представляющих 83 разные национальности и народности. Населённые пункты, административно подчинённые городскому акимату: посёлки Зачаганск, Деркул и Круглоозёрное, сёла Кордон, Ливкино, Маштаково, Меловые Горки и Серебряково, пос. Желаево.
