Khalkhal County (Persian: شهرستان خلخال)(Azerbaijani: خالخال بؤلگه‌سی) is a county in Ardabil Province in Iran. The capital of the county is Khalkhal. As of the 2016 census, the county's population was 86,731 with 26,779 households.[1] The county consists of three districts: the Central District, Khvor Rostam District, and Shahrud District. The county has three cities: Hashatjin, Kolowr, and Khalkhal. The majority of Khalkhal county are Azerbaijanis, but there are many Tats and Kurds living in the southern areas of the county, especially in Shahrud District and Khvoresh Rostam District.^{[citation needed]}
