Villages of Stradonice and Žloukovice are administrative parts of Nižbor.
Komárov is located about 6 kilometres (4 mi) northwest of Beroun and 24 km (15 mi) west of Prague. Nižbor lies on the Berounka River. It is located in the Křivoklát Highlands, in the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area.
The first written mention of Nižbor is from 1265, when Nižbor Castle was founded by Ottokar II of Bohemia. Then its name was Miesenburg (meaning "a castle upon Mže"), later distorted to Nižbor.[2]
Until 1918, Nižbor, then known as Nischburg, was part of the Austrian Empire (after the compromise of 1867, in Cisleithania), located in the Rakonitz (present-day Rakovník) district, one of the 94 Bezirkshauptmannschaften in Bohemia.[3]
A major attraction is the Nižbor glassworks, a Bohemian crystal factory founded in 1903.
