In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Division No. 1 had a population of 82,513 living in 33,807 of its 36,097 total private dwellings, a change of -0.1% from its 2016 population of 82,627. With a land area of 20,277.52 km² (7,829.19 sq mi), it had a population density of 4.1/km² (10.5/sq mi) in 2021.[4]
