Shoal Point is a headland at the north-east of the locality (21.0009°S 149.1577°E / -21.0009; 149.1577 (Shoal Point (headland))).[3][4]
The waters and inlets of the Coral Sea form the eastern and northern boundaries, and most of the western.[5]
In the 2016 census Shoal Point had a population of 977 people.[1]
The Mackay Regional Council operates a mobile library service on a fortnightly schedule at O'Brien Esplanade.[6][7]
