History

Garfield township was formed from Greenfield township on March 10, 1903.[3] The area contained coal mines.

According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 18.15 square miles (47.0 km²), of which 18.1 square miles (47 km²) (or 99.72%) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km²) (or 0.22%) is water.[2]
