Fairport, originally called Salem, was platted in 1839.[3]
Fairport was once a stop along the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad and along the Milwaukee Road.
Muscatine Community School District operates public schools serving the community.[4] Muscatine High School is the district's high school.
It also includes the towns of Fairport and Montpelier, as well as portions of the rural areas of Letts and Blue Grass.
