According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 32.58 square miles (84.4 km²), of which 31.94 square miles (82.7 km²) (or 98.04%) is land and 0.64 square miles (1.7 km²) (or 1.96%) is water.[3]

Most of the township is incorporated in the City of Elgin.
