Il nome è attestato per la prima volta in un atto Sassone dell'814, ove compare come Heanyfre, che significa "alto bordo".[2]
In Hever vi è l'omonimo castello, casa dell'infanzia di Anna Bolena, seconda moglie di Enrico VIII.
Nella chiesa parrocchiale di San Pietro vi è la tomba di Thomas Boleyn, I conte del Wiltshire, padre di Anna Bolena e nonno della regina Elisabetta I.

Hever village is a village and civil parish in the Sevenoaks District of Kent, England. The parish is located on the River Eden, a tributary of the River Medway, east of Edenbridge. It is 5 miles (8 km) by 1-mile (1.6 km) in extent, and 3,062 acres (12.39 km2) in area.
