Geografia e storia

Si trova sulla riva sinistra del Tamigi, di fronte a Windsor (che sorge sulla riva opposta), a cui è collegata tramite il Windsor Bridge. In passato Eton faceva parte della contea del Buckinghamshire, ma nel 1974 venne inglobata nel Berkshire. Dal 1998 è inclusa nell'autorità unitaria di Windsor and Maidenhead.

Eton, città in cui nacque il matematico William Oughtred, è particolarmente famosa in quanto sede dell'Eton college, prestigiosa scuola superiore privata inglese.

Eton [.mw-parser-output .IPA a{text-decoration:none}ˈiːtən] ist ein Ort in der englischen Grafschaft Berkshire, ca. 25 km westlich von London. Er liegt an der Themse gegenüber der Stadt Windsor. Beide Städte sind durch eine Brücke verbunden. Bis 1974 gehörte Eton zur Grafschaft Buckinghamshire. Eton hat 4980 Einwohner (2001). In dem Ort befindet sich das bekannte Eton College, ein exklusives Internat. Zum Eton College gehört auch der Dorney Lake, auf dem unter anderem die Ruder- und Kanuwettkämpfe der Olympischen Sommerspiele 2012 ausgetragen wurden.

Eton (/ˈiːtən/ EE-tən) is a town in Berkshire, England, on the opposite bank of the River Thames to Windsor, connected to it by Windsor Bridge. The civil parish, which also includes the village of Eton Wick two miles west of the town, had a population of 4,692 at the 2011 Census.[1] Within the boundaries of the historic county of Buckinghamshire, in 1974 it became part of the Berkshire admin area following the Local Government Act 1972;[3] since 1998 it has been part of the unitary authority of Windsor and Maidenhead. The town is best known as the location of Eton College.
