Epsom è una cittadina di 27.065 abitanti della contea del Surrey, in Inghilterra. Si trova a 29 km a sud di Charing Cross, il punto più centrale di Londra. In diverse classifiche stilate dal canale televisivo britannico Channel 4 è stato considerato uno dei migliori luoghi dove vivere e abitare nel Regno Unito.[1]
La città è famosa per l'Epsom Downs Racecourse, uno dei più importanti ippodromi del mondo.[2], dove si disputa annualmente il Derby di Epsom. È inoltre sede dell'ospedale Epsom General Hospital, e di diversi ospedali psichiatrici che risalgono al tardo Ottocento - inizi Novecento.[3][4]
Grazie alla stazione ferroviaria di Epsom, la cittadina è collegata frequentemente con le stazioni di Waterloo e Victoria nel centro di Londra, e da diversi autobus che in questo modo la connettono anche alla rete metropolitana tramite Morden.
Essendo parte integrante del borough di Epsom and Ewell, la cittadina è gemellata con Chantilly, in Francia.
La città ha dato il nome ai "sali di Epsom" o "sale inglese", costituiti da solfato di magnesio, che fu isolato per la prima volta ad Epsom.

Epsom ist eine Vorstadt von London im Borough Epsom and Ewell an der Grenze von Greater London.[en] Epsom
Epsom is the principal town of the Borough of Epsom and Ewell in Surrey, England, about 13.5 miles (22 kilometres) south of central London. The town is first recorded as Ebesham in the 10th century and its name probably derives from that of a Saxon landowner. The earliest evidence of human activity is from the mid-Bronze Age, but the modern settlement probably grew up in the area surrounding St Martin's Church in the 6th or 7th centuries and the street pattern is thought to have become established in the Middle Ages. Today the High Street is dominated by the clock tower, which was erected in 1847–8.[fr] Epsom (Royaume-Uni)
