History

It was one purpose built village which was constructed in the 1970s. The civil parish was created in 1991; before this, it was divided between the unparished area of Chorley and the parish of Euxton.[2]

Community

Astley Village has become well known due to Astley Park, which hosted the Royal Lancashire Show for a number of years by the summer of 2002.[3][4] The show was cancelled once in Samlesbury Hall in August 2003, pending the return to Chorley.[5] The village is roughly half one mile away from the nearest supermarket, the town centre of Chorley and the M61 being slightly further.

Long Croft Meadow backs onto Chorley Hospital, and the main road through the village is Chancery Road. The village is bypassed via West Way (B5252), the link road built in 1983 to 1984 to take traffic off the busy Chancery Road.
