History of Turre

Turre was originally a Moorish settlement created after the invading Christian armies of the Catholic Monarchs expelled the Moors from the nearby village of Mojacar in 1488. It was originally called Turris, after the Latin for "tower", probably because there was a watchtower at the location of the new settlement.[2]

Turre es una localidad y municipio español de la provincia de Almería, en Andalucía. Forma parte de la comarca del Levante Almeriense y de la mancomunidad de municipios del Consorcio del Río Aguas. Pertenece al partido judicial de Vera junto con Antas, Bédar, Carboneras, Cuevas del Almanzora, Los Gallardos, Garrucha, Lubrín y Mojácar. En 2021 contaba con 3.892 habitantes.
