A same-sex marriage between two men, Pedro Dias and Muño Vandilas, occurred on 16 April 1061 in Rairiz de Veiga. They were married by a priest at a small chapel. The historic documents about the church wedding were found at Monastery of San Salvador de Celanova.[3]

Rairiz de Veiga es un municipio de la provincia de Orense en Galicia. Pertenece a la comarca de La Limia. Forma parte de la reserva de la biosfera del Área de Allariz, zona de gran importancia biogeográfica, pues es un territorio fronterizo entre las dos grandes regiones que existen en la península ibérica, como son el mundo Mediterráneo y el Eurosiberiano.
