Der Ort hat eine Fläche von 4,2 km² und 3308 Einwohner (Stand 30. Juni 2011) und wurde am 12. Juni 2001 zur Vila erhoben.
Verkehr
Der Ort ist über die Estrada Nacional N125 an die Autoestrada A22 angeschlossen, die in Ost-West-Richtung durch die Algarve verläuft. In der Nähe befindet sich der Kleinflughafen Praia Verda für Sport- und Privatflugzeuge.
Strände
- Der Strand Praia de Adão e Eva grenzt im Westen an die Praia de Monte Gordo und im Osten an die Praia do Cabeço - Retur. Er ist umgeben von einem Wald aus Pinien und See-Kiefern, darin kommt eine der wenigen Chamäleonarten in Portugal vor.
Sport
Der GD Beira Mar war ein Sportverein in Monte Gordo. Er wurde am 2. August 1950 gegründet und stellte 2011 mit dem Rückzug aus der III Divisão den Spielbetrieb ein.

Monte Gordo is a town and a freguesia (parish) of the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, in the southeastern corner of Algarve, Portugal. The population in 2011 was 3,308,[1] in an area of 4.22 km2.[2] Formerly a fishermen's town, Monte Gordo's economy is nowadays oriented to tourism due to its sunny weather, long white sand beaches, trails in the surrounding pine woods, sand dunes, and the daily availability of fresh seafood gathered by the local artisan fishermen. Furthermore, the adjacent natural reserve - Reserva Natural do Sapal de Castro Marim e Vila Real de Santo António - attracts tourists due to its diverse fauna, which comprises some 153 species of birds, including storks, avocets, sandpipers and flocks of flamingos, as well as more than 400 plant species and various reptiles, amphibians and mammals. Its strategic location is also a plus, given that is located adjacent to the cities of Vila Real de Santo António and Castro Marim, as well as other nearby touristic attractions such as Cacela Velha and Tavira.[ru] Монте-Горду
