Villa del Carbón ist ein Municipio im mexikanischen Bundesstaat México. Es gehört zur Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México, der Metropolregion um Mexiko-Stadt. Verwaltungssitz und größter Ort im Municipio ist das gleichnamige Villa del Carbón. Das Municipio hatte im Jahr 2010 44.881 Einwohner, seine Fläche beträgt 307,7 km².


Geographie


Villa del Carbón liegt im Norden des Bundesstaates México, 35 km nordwestlich von Mexiko-Stadt in einer Höhe von 2300 m am Stausee Taxhimay bis 3600 m am Cerro de La Bufa. 45 % der Gemeindefläche sind bewaldet, weitere etwa 35 % werden landwirtschaftlich genutzt.

Das Municipio Villa del Carbón grenzt an die Municipios Tepotzotlán, Chapa de Mota, Morelos, Nicolás Romero und Jiquipilco sowie ans Municipio Tepeji del Río de Ocampo im Bundesstaat Hidalgo.

Villa del Carbón is a municipality located in the northern part of Mexico State, just northwest of Mexico City.[1] While the town and munipal seat of Villa del Carbón is the largest in the municipality, it is not the oldest. The municipality contains a number of villages of Otomí and Nahua origins, in which much of the indigenous culture still survives. The municipality's territory was defined in 1714 when a region known as Chiapan, split into what is now Chapa de Mota and Villa del Carbón. At that time, however, the community which is now a municipal seat did not have an official name; it was known first only by the name of its church Nuestra Señora de la Peña de Francia, and later by being a major supplier of charcoal. This would lead to the name of Villanueva del Carbón de Nuestra Señora Santa María de la Peña de Francia, which eventually shortened to Villa del Carbón.[2][3] The major portions of the municipality's glyph, which serves as it coat-of-arms, does not reflect the town of Villa del Carbón but rather two of its oldest communities: Taxhimay and San Lorenzo Pueblo Nuevo.[2]

Villa del Carbón es un pueblo y uno de los 125 municipios del Estado de México. Está situado en la parte norte del estado, justo al noroeste de la Ciudad de México.[3] El municipio contiene varios pueblos de origen otomí y nahua, en los que gran parte de la cultura indígena todavía persiste. El territorio del municipio se definió en 1714, cuando una región conocida como Chiapan, se dividió en lo que ahora es Chapa de Mota y Villa del Carbón. Sin embargo, en aquel momento la comunidad que ahora es la cabecera municipal no tenía un nombre oficial, fue conocida primero por el nombre de su iglesia Nuestra Señora de la Peña de Francia[4] y más adelante por ser un importante proveedor de carbón vegetal, esto llevó a que fuera denominada Villanueva del Carbón de Nuestra Señora Santa María de la Peña de Francia, que finalmente se acortó a Villa del Carbón.[5][6] La mayor parte del glifo del municipio, que sirve como escudo, refleja realmente a Villa del Carbón en cuanto su fisionomía geográfica, su arquitectura y las comunidades más antiguas: San Luis de las Peras ahora son (San Luis Anáhuac, San Luis Taxhimay) y San Lorenzo Pueblo Nuevo.
