Qayen (Persian: قائن, also Romanized as Ghayen, Qaen or Ghaen; from Middle Persian: kʾyyn Kāyēn)[2] is a city in and the capital of Qaen County, in South Khorasan Province, Iran. The population at the 2006 census, was 32,474 in 8,492 families.[3][4]

History


The Middle Persian work Shahrestaniha i Eranshahr mentions this city, and attributes its foundation to Sined Ninoh Kitop in 1588.[5]

Qāen (persisch قائن; weitere Schreibweisen Qayen, Ghayen, Ghajen oder Ghaen) ist eine Stadt in der Provinz Süd-Chorasan im Iran. Die Stadt ist vor allem wegen ihres Safrans bekannt und wird daher auch als Stadt des Safrans bezeichnet. Das hier produzierte Gewürz zeichnet sich durch das einmalige Aroma und die Intensität seiner Farbe aus. Neben dem Safran produziert die Stadt u. a. auch Teppiche.
