Fondée à la fin du XVI^e siècle pour héberger les mineurs, cette localité est depuis la seconde moitié du XVII^e siècle un grand centre de fabrication d'instruments de musique et, plus récemment, une station de sports d'hiver.

Klingenthal, bis 2007 Klingenthal/Sa., (vogtländisch Klingedool) ist eine Große Kreisstadt im Südosten des sächsischen Vogtlandkreises. Sie befindet sich im Musikwinkel im Naturpark Erzgebirge/Vogtland. Die Stadt erlangte Bekanntheit durch den Musikinstrumentenbau, als Ferienort im Vogtland und als Wintersportort.
