Lodève ist eine südfranzösische Kleinstadt und eine Gemeinde (commune) mit 7.477 Einwohnern (Stand 1. Januar 2019) im Département Hérault in der Region Okzitanien. Der nationale Rat für Geschichts- und Kunststädte und -landschaften (Conseil National des Villes et Pays d'Art et d'Histoire) hat im Jahr 2006 der Stadt Lodève den offiziellen Titel Ville d’art et d’histoire („Stadt der Kunst und der Geschichte“) zuerkannt.[en] Lodève
Lodève (French pronunciation: [lodɛv] (listen); Occitan: Lodeva pronounced [luˈðevɔ]) is a commune in the département of Hérault, in the Occitanie region in southern France. It is a sub-prefecture of the department. The derivation of the city's name is from Gaulish Luteva, composed of lut-, swamp, mud + suffix -eva. It might therefore translate as the muddy place or the swamp city. This mud could be a clay, called argillite, which was use during ancient history to produce pottery.[fr] Lodève
