As a result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), it is a merger between the previous municipalities of Frederikshavn, Skagen and Sæby. The new municipality has an area of 642 km² and a total population of 59,987 (2019).[1]

The first mayor of the new municipality was Erik Sørensen (Social Democrats). Since 2014 it has been Birgit Hansen which governs by a broad coalition with the rest of all the parties.

Frederikshavn Kommune ist eine dänische Kommune im Norden Jütlands und gehört zur Region Nordjylland. Sie entstand am 1. Januar 2007 im Zuge der Kommunalreform durch Vereinigung der „alten“ Frederikshavn Kommune mit den bisherigen Kommunen Skagen und Sæby im Nordjyllands Amt. Auf einer Fläche von 650,20 km²[2] leben dort 58.878 Einwohner (Stand 1. Januar 2022[1]).
