Demographics

According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Florida spans an area of 608.6 km² (235 sq mi) and has 10,177 inhabitants (5,231 men and 4,946 women). Of these, 3,875 (38.1%) lived in urban areas and 6,302 (61.9%) in rural areas. Between the 1992 and 2002 censuses, the population fell by 2.5% (260 persons).[2]

Administration

As a commune, Florida is a third-level administrative division of Chile administered by a communal council, headed by an alcalde who is directly elected every four years. The 2008-2012 alcalde is Juan Vergara Reyes. The communal council has the following members:[1]
