It is located in the Pirkanmaa region. The municipality has a population of 4,154 (31 December 2021)[2] and covers an area of 950.16 square kilometres (366.86 sq mi) of which 173.97 km² (67.17 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 5.35 inhabitants per square kilometre (13.9/sq mi).

Neighbouring municipalities are Juupajoki, Mänttä-Vilppula, Orivesi, Tampere, Virrat and Ylöjärvi.

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

Helvetinjärvi National Park is located in Ruovesi. The biggest lake in the area of the municipality is Lake Ruovesi. The educational department takes part in Lifelong Learning Programme 2007–2013 in Finland.

Ruovesi [.mw-parser-output .IPA a{text-decoration:none}ˈruɔvɛsi] ist eine Gemeinde in der Landschaft Pirkanmaa im Westen Finnlands. Sie liegt etwa 80 km nördlich von Tampere, am gleichnamigen See Ruovesi, der Teil des Näsijärvi-Seensystems ist. Ruovesi hat 4215 Einwohner (Stand 31. Dezember 2020). Die Gemeinde bedeckt eine Fläche von 950,2 km², wovon 174 km² reine Wasserflächen sind. Die Bevölkerung spricht ausschließlich finnisch.
