Ohio County is a county located in the Northern Panhandle of the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 42,425.[1] Its county seat is Wheeling.[2] The county was formed in 1776 from the District of West Augusta, Virginia.[3] It was named for the Ohio River, which forms its western boundary with the state of Ohio.
