Nel 1906 il giornale San Francisco Call dedicò una intera pagina agli "artisti, poeti e scrittori di Carmel-by-the-Sea", mentre nel 1910 affermò che il 60% delle case di Carmel erano state costruite dai cittadini che "avevano dedicato la loro vita al lavoro connesso con le arti estetiche".
Fin dall'inizio il Consiglio comunale è stato dominato dagli artisti, e la città ha avuto parecchi sindaci poeti o attori cinematografici, compreso Herbert Heron, fondatore del "Forest Theater", e l'attore-regista Clint Eastwood, che fu sindaco dal 1986 al 1988.
Geografia fisica

Carmel-by-the-Sea (/kɑːrˈmɛl/),[8] often simply called Carmel, is a city in Monterey County, California, United States, founded in 1902 and incorporated on October 31, 1916. Situated on the Monterey Peninsula, Carmel is known for its natural scenery and rich artistic history. In 1906, the San Francisco Call devoted a full page to the "artists, writers and poets at Carmel-by-the-Sea",[9] and in 1910 it reported that 60 percent of Carmel's houses were built by citizens who were "devoting their lives to work connected to the aesthetic arts." Early City Councils were dominated by artists, and several of the city's mayors have been poets or actors, including Herbert Heron, founder of the Forest Theater, bohemian writer and actor Perry Newberry, and actor-director Clint Eastwood, who served as mayor from 1986 to 1988.- [it] Carmel-by-the-Sea
