Storia


Marston Moretaine viene menzionato per la prima volta nel 969 nei Privilegi anglosassoni con il nome di Mercstuninga. Il paese ricompare poi nel Domesday Book del 1086 con il nome di Merestone. Il nome deriva dall'inglese antico mersc-tūn che significa 'città o insediamento presso una palude'. Il nome apparteneva alla famiglia dei Moretaine, originaria di Mortain in Normandia, Francia.[1]

Nel 2018 il paese cambiò nome da Marston Moretaine a Marston Moreteyne dopo una consultazione del Comune del Bedfordshire.[2]

A Marston Moretaine ha vissuto il soldato britannico Tom Moore.[3][4]

Marston Moreteyne (or Marston Moretaine[3]) is a large English village and civil parish located on the A421 between Bedford and Milton Keynes in the county of Bedfordshire. The population was 4,560 at the 2001 census,[4] and 4,556 at the 2011 census.[1] The village is served by Millbrook railway station, approximately a mile away on the Marston Vale Line.
