Scunthorpe problem

La ville a donné, à son corps défendant, son nom à une erreur récurrente des filtres qui sont censés bloquer les grossièretés et les obscénités sur Internet : en 1996, les filtres d'obscénités d'AOL, notamment, rejetaient le nom de la ville, parce qu'il contient la chaîne de caractères 'cunt', qui équivaut au français « con » dans tous ses sens. Les habitants de la ville étaient ainsi empêchés de créer des comptes AOL. Google a également adopté par la suite un filtre analogue, empêchant les recherches à propos de la ville. Cet exemple est devenu l'archétype de la pudibonderie maladroite des filtres Internet, et on l'a nommée « le problème de Scunthorpe ».

Scunthorpe ist eine Stadt in der englischen Grafschaft Lincolnshire. Sie ist seit 1996 Verwaltungssitz der Unitary Authority North Lincolnshire. Zuvor war sie seit 1974 Teil der nicht mehr existierenden Grafschaft Humberside. Die Industriestadt ist das größte Zentrum der Stahlproduktion im Vereinigten Königreich und wird daher auch Industrial Garden Town genannt.[1][2] Nach Grimsby und Lincoln ist sie mit 82.334 Einwohnern (Stand: 2016)[3] die drittgrößte Stadt Lincolnshires.

Scunthorpe (/ˈskʌnθɔːrp/) is an industrial town and unparished area in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire in Lincolnshire, England of which it is the main administrative centre. Scunthorpe had an estimated total population of 82,334 in 2016. A predominantly industrial town, the town is the United Kingdom's largest steel processing centre and is also known as the "Industrial Garden Town".[2][3] It is the third largest settlement in Lincolnshire, after Lincoln and Grimsby. The Member of Parliament for Scunthorpe is Conservative politician Holly Mumby-Croft.
