Karamürsel (in der Antike Πραίνετος, Praenetus) ist eine Stadtgemeinde (Belediye) im gleichnamigen Ilçe (Landkreis) der Provinz Kocaeli in der türkischen Marmararegion und gleichzeitig ein Stadtbezirk der 1993 gebildeten Büyükşehir belediyesi Kocaeli (Großstadtgemeinde/Metropolprovinz). Seit der Gebietsreform ab 2013 ist die Gemeinde flächen- und einwohnermäßig identisch mit dem Landkreis.[en] Karamürsel
Karamürsel is a town and district located in northwestern Turkey, on the coast of the Bay of Izmit in the province of Kocaeli. Before its conquest by the Ottomans it used to be called by the Greek name of Praenetos (Πραινετός in Greek). The modern name commemorates Kara Mürsel who founded the Ottoman navy and designed distinctive galley ships, called kadırgas, for it.[3]- [fr] Karamürsel
