Chatlon (tadschikisch Вилояти Хатлон/Wilojati Chatlon; russisch Хатлонская область/Chatlonskaja Oblast) ist eine der vier Provinzen (Wilojat) Tadschikistans. Sie liegt im Südwesten des Landes und umfasst rund 24.600 km². Die Bevölkerung liegt bei 2.898.600 Einwohnern (Stand 31. Dezember 2013), gestiegen von 2.504.600 Einwohnern (Stand: 31. Dezember 2007), 2.151.000 Einwohnern (2000) und 1.704.000 (1989). Die Provinz wird im Süden vom Grenzfluss Pandsch zu Afghanistan begrenzt. Im Westen grenzt die Provinz an Usbekistan. Die Provinz Chatlon entstand zunächst im September 1988 durch den Zusammenschluss der beiden in der Form seit 1973 existierenden Oblaste Qurghonteppa und Kulob (Kuljab), war aber von 1990 bis November 1992 erneut aufgeteilt.[en] Khatlon Region
Khatlon Region (Tajik: Вилояти Хатлон, Viloyati Xatlon), one of the four provinces of Tajikistan (Tajik: вилоят, Viloyat), is the most populous of the four first level administrative regions. It is situated in the southwest of the country, between the Hisor (Gissar) Range in the north and the river Panj in the south and borders on Afghanistan in the southeast and on Uzbekistan in the west. During Soviet times, Khatlon was divided into Kurgan-Tyube (Qurghonteppa) Oblast (Western Khatlon) – with the Kofarnihon and Vakhsh river valleys – and Kulob Oblast (Eastern Khatlon) – with the Kyzylsu and Yakhsu river valleys. Both regions were merged in November 1992 into today's Khatlon Region (or viloyat/oblast). The capital city is Bokhtar, formerly known as Qurghonteppa and Kurgan-Tyube.[3]- [it] Chatlon
