La ville est située à 15 km de la Puerta del Sol de Madrid.
Rivas Vaciamadrid est une ville de grands contrastes, elle est située en périphérie de la capitale, mais a réussi à être un grand lieu écologique espagnol, les trois quarts de la partie municipale est une zone protégée, on peut souligner qu'une colonie de cigognes et une centaine de faucons s'y sont établis.
Rivas a également un profil sociologique particulier. Sa population a augmenté de façon spectaculaire à partir de seulement 500 habitants en 1980 pour atteindre 60 000 habitants aujourd'hui, sa croissance démographique est considérée comme la plus forte de l'Europe.

Rivas-Vaciamadrid liegt ca. 15 km südöstlich von Madrid am Zusammenfluss von Jarama und Manzanares und ist die Stadt Europas, deren Einwohnerzahl in den letzten 20 Jahren am schnellsten angestiegen ist. Rivas-Vaciamadrid (Spanish: [ˈriβas βaθjamaˈðɾið]) is the 15th most populated city in the Community of Madrid, Spain.[2] It belongs to the Madrid metropolitan area and is located just 15 km from central Madrid, to the south-east. In the southern part of the municipality, the Manzanares river flows into the Jarama, which is part of the Lower Manzanares and Jarama Rivers Regional Park.
