    Les premières traces de Monistrol de Montserrat remontent à l'an 888 lorsque le comte Guifred le Velu fit un don au monastère de Santa María de Ripoll, qui comprend quelques églises situées au sommet et au pied de Montserrat.

      Monistrol de Montserrat ist eine katalanische Gemeinde in der Provinz Barcelona im Nordosten Spaniens. Sie liegt in der Comarca Bages. Von hier führt eine Zahnradbahn (Cremallera de Montserrat) zum Kloster Montserrat.

      Monistrol de Montserrat (Catalan pronunciation: [munisˈtɾɔl də munsəˈrat]) is a municipality in the comarca of the Bages in Catalonia, Spain. The municipality includes the southern two-thirds of the massif of Montserrat and the famous Benedictine monastery of the same name. The town, known as Montserrat-Vila, is situated on the eastern flank of the massif above the valley of the Llobregat river: it is connected with the monastery (higher up) and with the railway station in the valley (FGC line R5) by the Montserrat Rack Railway (Cremallera de Montserrat). The C-1411 road links the town with Martorell and Manresa. The bridge over the Llobregat river dates from the fourteenth century. The municipality includes a small exclave to the north-west.

      Monistrol[1] (en catalán y oficialmente, Monistrol de Montserrat) es un municipio de la comarca catalana del Bages, en la provincia de Barcelona, España. Se encuentra situado bajo la montaña de Montserrat y formando parte de la montaña. El río Llobregat atraviesa el municipio y lo divide en dos, ubicándose el poblado original a la orilla derecha y los nuevos desarrollos urbanísticos recientes (Monistrol-Residencial, El Pla, La Batanera...) al margen izquierdo. Viniendo del sur, Monistrol es el primer pueblo de la comarca del Bages, a 15 km de la capital de comarca, Manresa. Limita al norte con Castellbell y Vilar, al este con Vacarisas, al oeste con Marganell y al sur con Esparraguera y Collbató.
