Kroonstad [.mw-parser-output .IPA a{text-decoration:none}krʊənstat] ist eine Stadt in der Lokalgemeinde Moqhaka im südafrikanischen Distrikt Fezile Dabi der Provinz Freistaat. Sie hatte 2011 bei der Volkszählung 24.723 Einwohner,[1] das benachbarte Township Maokeng hatte 73.057 Einwohner.[2] Kroonstad liegt in 1.369 Metern Höhe. Kroonstad liegt jeweils 200 Kilometer westlich von Johannesburg und nordöstlich von Bloemfontein am Ufer des Flusses Vaal.[3][en] Kroonstad
Kroonstad (Afrikaans directly translated "Crown City") is the third largest city in the Free State (after Bloemfontein and Welkom) and lies two hours' drive on the N1 from Gauteng. Maokeng is an area within Kroonstad, and is occasionally used as a synonym of the town itself.[3][4] It is the second-largest commercial and urban centre in the Northern Free State (after Welkom), and an important railway junction on the main line from Cape Town to Johannesburg.
