Brandal ist eine Ortschaft in der westnorwegischen Gemeinde Hareid im Fylke Møre og Romsdal. Die Ortschaft liegt auf der Insel Hareidlandet am Sulafjorden und hat 332 Einwohner (Stand: 1. Januar 2021).[1]

Brandal war in der Zeit von 1898 bis 1998 ein Zentrum des Seehundfangs und Heimathafen von bis zu 47 Eismeerschiffen in Norwegen. Von diesen Eismeerschiffen existieren heute nur noch die Aarvak aus dem Jahr 1912 und die Polarstar aus dem Jahr 1948. Die Aarvak ist heute Bestandteil des Eismeermuseum Aarvak und kann in einer eigenen Bootshalle besichtigt werden.

Am 17. Mai 1941 wurde Brandal von deutschen Truppen besetzt, die bei Kvitneset eine Festung errichteten. In der Festung waren während des Krieges auch russische Kriegsgefangene untergebracht.

Brandal is a village in Hareid Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located on the eastern shores of the island of Hareidlandet, along the Sulafjorden. The village lies about 3.5 kilometres (2.2 mi) north of the municipal centre of Hareid and about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) northeast of the town of Ulsteinvik on the other side of the island. The 0.3-square-kilometre (74-acre) village has a population (2018) of 338 and a population density of 1,127 inhabitants per square kilometre (2,920/sq mi).[1]
