Storia


Fino al 1º gennaio 2005 ha costituito un comune autonomo, per poi fondersi con Wisch nel nuovo comune di Oude IJsselstreek, di cui è la sede municipale ed il centro più popoloso.

Il comune era composto da 7 frazioni più il capoluogo: Breedenbroek, Etten, Gendringen, Megchelen, Netterden, Ulft, Varsselder e Voorst

Gendringen ist ein niederländisches Dorf der Gemeinde Oude IJsselstreek, das zur Region Achterhoek in der Provinz Gelderland gehört. Das Dorf hat 4.340 Einwohner und liegt am Fluss Oude IJssel.[1] Gendringen liegt direkt an der Grenze zwischen Deutschland und den Niederlanden und hat einen Übergang zum Nachbarort Anholt, der zur Stadt Isselburg (Kreis Borken) gehört. Die Landesgrenze führt in west-östlicher Richtung im Süden von Gendringen entlang. Auf niederländischer Seite grenzt Gendringen an die Gemeinden Montferland, Doetinchem und Aalten.

Gendringen is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is in the municipality of Oude IJsselstreek, about 12 km (7.5 mi) southeast of Doetinchem and 20 km (12 mi) northwest of the German city Bocholt. It has approximately 4400 inhabitants.[3] In the Middle Ages, Gendringen was a fortress. Being property of the archbishop of Köln (Cologne), Gendringen was loaned to the lords living in the castle of 's-Heerenberg. In 1830, downtown Gendringen burned down for the most part. Nowadays, most of the entrepreneurs of the town are situated in the Grotestraat, which makes this street the most important street of downtown Gendringen. Gendringen was a separate municipality until 2005. Then, due to the municipal re-organization in the Achterhoek, Gendringen and Wisch joined together into Oude IJsselstreek.
