Étymologie

Le nom de "Komae" trouverait son origine du mot "koma", en référence aux nombreux migrants coréens qui vinrent s'installer dans la péninsule, il y a près de 1000 ans.

Histoire

Le découpage administratif actuel de la municipalité a été réalité en 1889. À l'origine intégrée à la préfecture de Kanagawa, elle fut transférée au sein préfecture de Tokyo en 1893. La plus grande partie de l'urbanisation de Komae s'est réalisé dans les années 1960 et 70.

Géographie

Géographiquement, Komae se situe au bord de la rivière Tama-gawa. Elle possède des frontières avec Setagaya (préfecture de Kanagawa) à l'ouest et Chōfu à l'est.

Démographie

La population de la ville est estimée à 78 368 habitants pour une superficie de 6,39 km² en 2006.

Komae (狛江市, Komae-shi) is a city located in the western portion of Tokyo Metropolis, Japan. It is one of 30 municipalities in the western portion of Tokyo known as the Tama Area. As of 1 April 2021[update], the city had an estimated population of 83,218, and a population density of 13,000 persons per km².[1] Based on the 2015 Kanto Ranking, Musashino was the fifth most desirable place to live in Central Japan.[citation needed] The total area of the city is 6.39 square kilometres (2.47 sq mi). It is the smallest administrative city in Tokyo Meotropolis both in area and population, and the second smallest in terms of area in the nation.
