Questo centro abitato è stato fondato dalla famiglia Flanders (ora Fleming), successivamente emigrati in America. Il centro della località è un ottimo esempio urbanistico di villaggio del XVIII secolo, con quattro case in stile georgiano. Questi edifici sono posti nell'intersezione delle due principali strade del paese, formando un ottagono noto come The square (la piazza).[3]
Il villaggio è noto per ospitare l'omonimo castello.
Aree archeologiche
Nei pressi del villaggio, vi è la necropoli di Brú na Bóinne risalente al neolitico posta adiacente al fiume Boyne.[4]

Slane (Irish: Baile Shláine, meaning 'Town of Sláine mac Dela')[2] is a village in County Meath, in Ireland. The village stands on a steep hillside on the left bank of the River Boyne at the intersection of the N2 (Dublin to Monaghan road) and the N51 (Drogheda to Navan road). As of the 2016 census, Slane's population was 1,369.[1] The village and surrounding area contains many historic sites dating back over 5,000 years.
