Palakkad (Malayalam: പാലക്കാട് Pālakkāṭ [.mw-parser-output .IPA a{text-decoration:none}ˈpaːləkːaːɖ]), früher Palghat, ist eine Stadt im südindischen Bundesstaat Kerala mit rund 130.000 Einwohnern (Volkszählung 2011). Die Stadt ist Verwaltungssitz des Distrikts Palakkad. Der Name Palakkad (Pālakkāṭ) ist zusammengesetzt aus den Malayalam-Wörtern pāla, der Bezeichnung für die Baumart Alstonia scholaris, und kāṭŭ für „Wald“. Teilweise ist die Stadt noch unter ihrer anglisierten Namensform Palghat bekannt.[en] Palakkad

It is the administrative headquarters of the Palakkad District. Palakkad is most densely populated municipality and fourth densely populated city in Kerala. It was established before Indian independence under British rule and was known by the name Palghat. Palakkad is famous for the ancient Palakkad Fort, which is situated at the heart of the city and was captured and rebuilt by Hyder Ali in 1766.
